(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 ?8 September, 19;53 2 25X1 Fishing Controls in Fukien 1. On.20 March 1953 there were about 200 fishing junks in Ch'ungwu (N 24-53, E 118-54). Some of these junks were owned by civilians and others were owned by the Chinese Communist Government. Those owned by the government were divided into groups under the control of an executive appointed by the govern- ment. All fish caught by these groups were to be turned over to the Communists for disposal. 2. On 20 MBxch the fishermen in Ch'ungwu had to register with the Communist authorities before being allowed to sail out to sea. Fishing junks had. to show a pr r, 4' light signal before they were allowed to dock at Ch'ungwu. Fishermen's Associations in Chekiang 3.. In mid-April 1953, the Fishermen's Association of K'anmen (N 28-06, E 121-16) had 3,518 members sailing on 500 while-hulled fishing boats; 40 tatiaotsao 1129/686x/4748) type fishing boats; nine kangtsao (6921/471+8)1 type; and 50 small fishing boats. 4. The Fishermen's Association of Chait'ou N 28-08, E 121-22) in April consisted of 116 members sailing on 17 szuchiaoti 0934/6037/1646)1 type fishing boats;; four kangtsao type boats; and nine small fishing boats. These are probably local terms in use to distinguish between shing junks having minor construction differences.
