1. In late January 1953, 30 motor junks stationed at Chiaochiang (approximately
N 28-42, E 121-22) and at Haimen (N 28-43, E 121-25) regularly patrolled
the waters between Sanmenwan (N 29- , E 121- ) and Sungmen (N 28-22, E 121-36).
2. At 1000 hours on 21 January, two Communist PGM-type gunboats entered Chiaochiang
from the north.
At 1210 hours on 23 January, two 100-ton merchant ships and two 100-ton Com-
munist motor junks left Chiaochiang and sailed north at eight knots. At 1300
hours two eight-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and sailed north at six knots.
4. At 0820 hours on 24 January, two YP-type gunboats and one ten-ton motor junk
left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
At 1500 hours on 27 January, two 100-ton motor vessels, one 250-ton motor
vessel, and three 20-ton motor junks arrived at Chiaochiang from the north.
6. At 0800 hours on 30 January, two Communist gunboats arrived at Chiaochiang
from the north.
7. At 0930 hours on 1 February, two.250-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and
sailed north.
8. At 1015 hours on 1 February, one 20-ton gunboat arrived at Chiaochiang from
the north.
9. At 1030 hours on 4 February, two gunboats left Chiaochiang. At 1120 hours
these gunboats met one landing craft and one motor junk at Paitaimen (N 28-54,
E 12138). The gunboats turned and accompanied the other two vessels toward the

10. At 0950 hours on 5 February, one landing craft, one 80-ton motor vessel, and
one 115-ton motor vessel left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
11. At 1215 hours on 6 February, two ML-type gunboats, one 140-ton gunboat, and
four 15-ton motor junks entered Chiaochiang from the north.
12. At 0930 hours on 7 February, two 12-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and sailed
north. At 1000 hours two additional motor junks followed. At 1030 hours two
ML-type gunboats, one LCT, and one 115-ton motor junk were sailing northward
from Chiaochiang. At 1630 hours two ML-type gunboats were sailing toward
Chiaochiang from the north.
13. At 1230 hours on 9 February, two YP-type gunboats arrived at Chiaochiang from
the north.

to Sanmenwan. At 1615 hours these gunboats moved from Sanmenwan to Paitaiman.
At 2330 hours two of these gunboats returned to Chiaochiang and one remained
at Paitaimen.
19. At 1250 hours on 27 February, one 15-ton motor junk left Chiaochiang and
sailed north. At 1400 hours two 10-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and
sailed north. At 1500 hours one 90-ton motor junk also left Chiaochiang and
sailed north.
20. At 1100 hours on 28 February, 30 sail junks escorted by four motor junks and
three gunboats, sailed north from Chiaochiang.

29. At 1000 hours on 21 March, six 70-ton motor junks and one ML-type gunboat
sailed from Chiaochiang toward the north. At 1330 hours two ML-type gunboats
entered Chiaochiang from the north.
30. At'0825 hours on 23 March, two ML-type gunboats left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
31. At 1230 hours on 23 March, five junks, about 50 tons each, were in the vicinity
of Paishashan.
32. At 0730 hours on 25 March, two YP-type gunboats entered Chiaochiang from the north.
33. At 1400 hours on 30 March, two 30-ton motor junks and three 100-ton motor junks
left Chiaochiang and sailed north. At 1410 hours two ML-type gunboats left
Chiaochiang for Paitaimen. At 1440 hours these gunboats left Paitaimen and
returned to Chiaochiang.
34. At 1140 hours on 1 April, three 25-ton motor junks and three 100-ton motor junks
were sailing from Paitaimen toward Chiaochiang at seven knots. At 1530 hours
300 fishing boats escorted by three YP-type gunboats left Chiaochiang and
sailed north.
35. At 1900 hours on 1 April, three 100-ton gunboats escorted 100 fishing boats
sailing south from Haimen.
36. At 1000 hours on 2 April, one YP-type gunboat left Chiaochiang and sailed north
at ten knots.
37. At 1100 hours on 2 April, six armed motor junks, ranging in size from 20 to 60
tons each, sailed into Chiaochiang from the north. At 1600 hours 200 fishing
boats, escorted by two small gunboats, left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
38. At 0530 hours on 7 April, four ML-type gunboats left Chiaochiang and sailed
north at ten knots.
39. On 8 April)_:. ., a sampan manned by guerrillas of the South East Anti-Communist
Command (SEACC) captured a ten-ton junk near P'ishan (N 28-06, E 121-30). The
junk, loaded with faggots and bamboo, was from Shiht'ang (N 28-17, E 121-36).
The Communist junk offered no resistance and the guerrillas released the
prisoners.
40. At 1100 hours on 8 A ril, three Communist gunboats arrived three miles northeast
of Kinmentao (N 28-49, E 121-52), and at 1200 hours on 9 April were still
patrolling the area.
41. At 1000 hours on 10 April, Communist gunboats ceased patrolling northeast; of
Kinmentao. One gunboat returned to Haimen and two sailed north.
42. At 1200 hours on 10 April, one steamship and two ML-type gunboats arrived at
Haimen from the north.
43. At 1200 hours on 10 April, 300 fishing junks and three gunboats left Haimen
and sailed north. At 1300 hours one armed motor junk arrived at Haimen from the
north.
44. At 1300 hours on 10 April, 200 fishing boats and two ML-type gunboats were at
Paitaimen.
45. At 1700 hours on 10 April, two ML-type gunboats left Haimen and sailed north
at ten knots, and three motor junks sailed into Haimen from the north.
46. At 0930 hours on 13 April, two ML-type gunboats and one 150-ton steamship left
Haimen and sailed north at eight knots.
47. At 1200 hours on 13 April, two 100-ton motor junks left Haimen and sailed north.

48. At 1200 hours on 16 April, two 100-ton motor junks sailed into Chiaochiang
from the north.

49. At 1230 hours on 16 April, two motor junks, one displacing 60 tons, sailed west
of T'oumen (N 28-44, E 121-46) toward the south at seven knots. At 1400 hours
three 40-ton motor junks sailed past Kinmentao toward the south. At 1700 hours
four ML-type gunboats, five 15-ton motor junks, and two 30-ton motor junks sailed
from Paitaimen toward the north at eight knots.
50. At 1300 hours on 18 April, two 25-ton motor junks and five 15-ton motor junks
entered Chiaochiang from the north.
51. At 1000 hours on 19 April, four Communist ML-type gunboats from Paitaimen were
sighted southeast of Kinmentao. At 1330 hours the gunboats fired several rounds
at two Nationalist junks near T'ienao (N 28-46, E 121-51). The Nationalists
returned the fire and at 1530 hours the Communist gunboats returned to Paitaimen.
52. At 1030 hours on 19 April,.four Communist motor junks, two displacing 100 tons
and two 70 tons, were sighted west of T'oumen sailing towards Chiaochiang.
53. At 1700 hours on 19 April, 1,000 fishing boats, escorted by four gunboats, left
Chiaochiang and sailed north.
54. At 0700 hours on 20 April, guerrillas on Ch'angyaoshan (N 27-26, E 121-04)
captured a two-ton sail junk one mile east of Kuanshan (N 27-20, E 120-36).
The ship belonged to the Wenchou Supply Welfare Association acid was loaded
with salt eel. The guerrillas took four prisoners.
55. At 1500 hours on 20 April, f9ur Communist PGM.'s attacked the.SEACC,motor junk
CHANG CHIANG (70223068) south of T'oumen. In the engagement two Nationalists
were wounded and the CHANG CHIANG was forced to flee under cover of artillery
fire from Ichiangtao (approximately N 28-36, E 121-48). The CHANG CHIANG
reached Tach'en at 1630 hours.
56. At 0830 hours on 21 April, two ML-type gunboats left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
57. At 0845 hours on 23 April, two ML-type gunboats left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
58. At 0900 hours on 23 April, two 70-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
59. At 1200 hours on 23 April, there were 200 fishing boats escorted by two gunboats
in the area west of Kinmentao.
60. At 1100 hours on 24 April, two YP-type gunboats sailed past Paitaimen sailing
toward the south.
61. At 1700 hours on 24 April, three 100-ton motor junks left Chiaochiang and sailed
north.
62. At 1830 hours on 24 April, one 100-ton motor junk left Chiaochiang and sailed
north. At 1840 hours one steel-hull 150-ton motor ship and one wooden-hull
200-ton ship left Chiaochiang and sailed north.
63. At 1900 hours on 24 April, Nationalist sentries on the south point of Liehhsu
(N 24-26, E 118-14) fired their rifles at an object that resembled a submarine
periscope. The object appeared about 1,00 meters south of the island, and
disappeared to the southwest.
64. At 0500 hours on 25 April, three 100-ton motor junks entered Chiaochiang from
the north.
65. At 0830 hours on 25 April, 2,000 boats were fishing in the waters off Kinmentao.

66. Between 1000 and 1030 hours on 26 April, two Communist 50-ton gunboats fired
on Kinmentao.
67. Between 1300 and 1400 hours on 26 April, the SEACC motor junk LINHAI (5259/
3189) and the Nationalist navy PGM 103 engaged three ML-type gunboats at
Sanmentao. One Communist vessel was damaged, but the Nationalist gunboat
sustained no damage.
68. At 1700 hours on 27 April, one armed 50-ton motor junk sailed into Chiaochiang
from the north.
69. On 27 April motor junk SUNG SHENG (7313/5116) of the Fukien Anti-Communist
National Salvation Army (FACNSA) captured two Chinese Communist sail junks at
approximately (N 24-59, E 119-01). The guerrillas removed 400 catties of crude
f&ax and 400 catties of salt fish. The cargo was valued at JMP 1,890,000.
Five Communist motor junks from Meichou (N 25-05, E 119-04) attacked the SUNG
SHENG, and during the one hour battle the guerrillas released the sail junks.
The Communist junks withdrew to Oweishan (N 25-02, E 119-06) and the SUNG $HENO
returned to Wuch'iuhsu (N 25-00, E 119-27)-
70. At 2200 hours on; 30 April, four Communist motor junks and one gunboat were
pursued by the CHANG CHIANG from north Sanmenwan to the southeast and in the
direction of Chait'ou (N 28-08, E 121-22). When the Communists fired flares
the Nationalists gave up the pursuit.
71. On 3 May three Communist sail junks carrying troops were intercepted by two
North Fukien Anti-Communist National Salvation Army (NFACNSA) sail junks
from T'aishan (N 26-58, E 120-38),and a short fire fight ensued.
72. At 0900 hours on 3 May, FACNSA gunboat TATUNG (1129/2639) sighted two Communist
motor junks near Chiangchunao (N 24-02, E 117-52) enroute to Canton from Amoy.
The guerrillas pursued the two junks which were beached at Chiangchunao. The
crews of both junks fled ashore. At 1030 hours one junk was towed off the
beach by the guerrillas, but the other junk was too badly damaged by rocks and
shell fire to be salvaged. The latter junk also sustained some casualties.
73. At 1130 hours three Communist junks from Wuhsu (N 24-20, E 118-08) attempted to
intercept the TATUNG, and after a two hour battle one Communist junk was observed
smoking. Chinmen based Nationalist air force planes strafed the Communist junks
that fled.
74. At 2200 hours the junk which had been towed off the beach arrived at Chinmen.
The junk displaced about 100 tons, had two Japanese-made Diesels, and in
general was in good condition. The junk carried a cargo of various foodstuffs,
90 drums of peanut oil, and 200 empty 55-gallon drums. The TATUNG and two
Nationalist junks took 12 prisoners from three Communist fishing boats while
sailing from Chiangchunao to Chinmen.
75. At midnight on 9 May, nine SEACC guerrillas landed on Kohaishan (N 28-18,
E 121-38) and engaged in a fire'fight with 20 Communists. The guerrillas
captured one woman and retired without sustaining any casualties.
76. At 0200 hours on 10 May, SEACC guerrilla junk T'uchi (4499/2345) captured one
Communist fishing junk and one sampan near Huoch'ashan (approximately N 28-06,
E 121-21).
