Radio Reception in the Shkoder Area
THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE.
THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE.

1. In the Shkoder area the BBC broadcasts were the most popular. The speakers on
the Albanian broadcasts of the Voice of America were not sufficiently Albanian.
Very little was known about reception in this area of the radio broadcasts from
Radio Free Europe and the National Committee for a Free Albania.
2. At the beginning of 1951 the Albanian broadcast of the Voice of America began
presenting Yugoslavia ae a country of the free world. As a result., manyy hun-
dreds of Albanians fled to that country under this misapprehension, and may
of these have now ended up in Yugoslav prisons or camps.
25X1A 1. I Jommento The reference here is probably not only to the fact
that there is no political freedom for the refugees in Yugoslavia., but
also the fact that it is extremely difficult for an Albanian to emigrate
or escape from Yugoslavia, and those who attempt the latter are usually
caught and imprisoned.
