1. Lake Arpa is approximately 35 kilometers north of Leninakan (N 40-48,
25X1 E 1j3-50). A dam was to be built there and it was also the site for
a future hydroelectric station which was to be completed by 1951. The
director of the project was a certain Dzhananzyan (fnu) and the chief
engineer was a Georgian named Gyalibekov-(fnu). Approximately 360 workers
were employed on the project and the majority of them were either Armenians
or Georgians. Workers were housed with the villagers of Shurabat for which
each owner of the house was paid 15 rubles per month by the government. The work
day was from 0600 to 1900 hours,, seven days per week. The workers were
given one kilogram of black bread a day and nothing else.
2. The Leninakan Hydroelectric Station is located approximately 12 kilometers
northwest of Leninakan on the Arpachay River.
3. There is a meteorological station at Mt. Alagez (N?10-32, E 14-12). This
station's meteorological forecasts are reported via radio.
