The Communist-oontrolled Fronts del Pueblo is studying means of promoting
the candidacy of Agustin ALVAREZ Villablanca for Senator from Santiago,
to fill the vacancy caused by the recent removal of Maria de la CRUZ from
the Senate. ALVAREZ, who is now Political Secretary of the Fronts del
Pueblos was former secretary-general of the Socialist Party of Chile
during the time of that Party's collaboration with the government of
Gabriel GONZALEZ Videla. ALVAREZ' candidacy will be promoted by the
Fronts del Pueblo in oonjunotion with support from the Partido Radical.
Conversations leading to an agreement between the Frente del Pueblo and
the Partido Radical for supporting ALVAREZ' candidacy are already under
Ray.
