1. Vrazhdebna airfield is located on the west side of the Sofia - Samokov road, from
which a branch road seven kilometers in length runs to the airfield. It is in an open
plain 3,000 x 1,300 meters in sized The field is drained and grassy. Prevailing
wind is from the southeast. Vrazhdebna airfield includes the following buildings,,.
all massively built of bricks
a. A 2-story staff building, used in part as quarters;
b. A 2-story barracks, 40 x 200 meters in site;
Co in assembly and repair shop located at the south side of the barracks; and
do A hangar, 1.40 x 100 meters in size, also located south of the barracks.
2. An underground gasoline dump is located four kilometers south of the field and is
well concealed in.a small woods. Radio and weather stations are situated in the
staff building, bit there is no radar. A concrete runway, 1,000 x 30 meters in
size, runs northwest to southeast. The field also includes a concrete apron
500 x 32 meters in size. Lights are located at the southeast and northeast limits
of the field and night flying is possible.
3. A Bulgarian fighter squadron is based at Vrazhdebna airfield. The squadron is
commanded by Lieutenant Colonel KOLTOV and is composed of three canpanies with a
total of 225-235 men. The planes consist of 20 YAK-9s. This squadron is in the
advanced training stage and does a considerable amount of flying. Motor facilities
at Vrazhdebna airfield include the followings
a. Five cars;
b. Four 3-ton tank-trucks; and
c. 17-19 trucks.

!td The central school for Air Force ground personnel is also located at Vrazhdebna
airfield. This school., commie ded by Captain BORUDIN. includes the
following coursess 50X1-HUM
a. A course in airplane engine maintenance, commanded by First Lieutenant
b. A course in fighters-
c. A course in attack planes (only one YAK-9 is available to work with);
d. A course in weapons., both infantry and air., with six planes of various types; and
e. A course: in electrical installations on planes-this course is very well equipped.
5. All courses at the school begin with six weeks of infantry training. Training in
the specialties is very strict. The students did not take part in the last maneuvers
but remained at the airfield studying technical subjects. Five cars and ]1 trucks
are assigned to this school.
