In October 1953, the 24 "Chernomorski" Regiment, Podelenie 1764, received
400 recruits. Only the staff, regimental troops and one battalion are in
the city of Burgas. A second battalion is in a village in the neighborhood,
and the third is located near Burgas in a military camp at the target range.
2. The latter battalion, commanded by Major SUKOV, is housed in an, old dairy,
where additional wooden barracks have been built, and is located in a wood,
surrounded by barbed wire five kilometers west of Burgas. It occupies
an area, 1,000 x 1,200 meters in size. The battalion has three companies,
two of which are commanded by Senior Lieutenant LUVSKI and Senior Lieutenant
DZHEMBALOV. Each company is armed as follows:
a. Seventy-five to eighty rifles;
b. Five pistols;
c. Ten .machine pistols; and
d. Three light machine guns.
The battalion is not motorized.
3. A section of coast artillery has its own barracks near the defense
installations. At present there are five 120 mm. old Czech guns in position.
Among the guns are six concrete bunkers, roofed with steel plates, which can
accommodate four men.

4? At Burgas harbor there is a military camp, surrounded by barbed wire, which
can be entered only by presenting a pass with a photograph. There is one
large building for the harbor police, and a 3-story building for the harbor
guard, in company strength.
5. The shipyard employs over 300 persons. It is now engaged in producing Soviet-
type patrol boats for the Bulgarian Navy. These boats have a crew of 30 men,
and are armed with one light gun, and antiaircraft artillery. The yard also
repairs merchant ships and has produced a few new ones.
