L. The order of the East Uerman Government that all work ori the auegenhafen
project be suspended zame as a stir prise to all key persons at BaueUnion
Nord. When State Secretary Willy Pier e Deeety Minister of the Interior%
appeared on Ruegen Island to inform the woekera of the deoiseon taken
by the governments he was given a warnine that workers aemedwith
clubs were waiting for him to arrive,. Be thereupon left the islard in a
hurry, crdering that the managemeet of BaueUnion Nord annoteeee the
government order .
After 17 June 1953, no new building operations were started on the sites
and ell pertinent funds were cancelled., The only work continued was for
windinee-up and clearine work The transfer of workers of Ban-Union Nord
to other construction Anions in East Germany alno began on 17 Jane, Only
400 workers and 400 employees were still empleyed on 15 June 1953, They
were given dismissal notices for 31 July 1953, when Pate-Union Nord was tc
be dissolved., The personnel required to settle accounts was granted paid
leave after 31 July 1953 to retain them for finalleind-upwork,
