On the morning of 25 July 1953, a Soviet high-wing monoplane landed at
Mahiwinkel airfield and, after 20 minutes, took off heading east. The
farmers who were allowed to harvest hay on the landing field had to
complete this work by 27 Julys The timber in the clearing north of the
west end of the field has not yet been shipped away,. As of = 30 July 1953
no Soviets were observed at the field.
