THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE.

The USSR possesses about 70 midget submarines, a large portion of which are
believed to be operational.. They are based in the Baltic, the Black Sea, and
the Pacific. Because of their characteristics, each port or auxiliary ship
with a 20-ton crane could constitute a base. About 20 of these submarines are
of the exerman SEEHUND type and the rest, about 50, of a Soviet type, improved
in part on the SEEHUND type.
Following are the characteristics of the ex-German SEEHUND type of Soviet midget
submarine :
a. Size: 12 x 1.80 x 1.80 meters. 16 tons.
bo Type of propulsion: 6C) lip diesel motor; 30 hp electric motor.
e. Speed: five knots surfaced; three knots submerged.
dp Endurance: 250 miles at five knots surfaced; 60 miles at three knots sublllerged.
