1e In May 1953, a Pole of the 1934 class, who lived in Warsaw9was inducted
and assigned to, an infantry unit which was stationed at Ostrow
Wielkopolski (P-52/0 95) . 1
2, Between 16 and 19 June 1953, several Polish veterans in Gdynia (Q 55/Y 44)
said that the term of active r7ilitary service was three years for the
Army and the Air Force and four years for the Navy. The Poles also said
that this, system was not rigidly observed. '?or instance, servicemen were
discharged from the navy after two or three years depending on requirements
of the merchant fleet

'ommienty It is believed that this was no regular induction, since
the 1932 class was inducted in the fail of 1 952 as scheduled. which was
confirmed by an official announcement 25X1 A
Comment, The national defense act provides for a 2-year tern= of
active service in the army and a 3-year term of active service in the
air force and the navy. During the last years, it was an established policy
to discharge qualified specialists from the army only after three or three
and a half years. This office believes that the term of active service in
the army is still two years despite the rta%:ors on an extension of this
term.
