Since the beginning of 1952, the aszef Lackovics Shipyard in Ujpest has been incorporated in the Gheorghiu-Dej (former Ganz) Shipyard and managed from the headquarters of the latter, Hitherto it has onV been handling the builAing?nd. repair of Danube barges. 2. In otder- to comply with the new Soviet contract for fifty 10.100eton vessels during the next three years, it has been decided to use the (Zackovics)yard too fiir building the Soviet ships. Work to improve the facilities of this yard were- seheduled to begin during the summer of 1953. 3. Meanythile at the Georghiu-Dej Shipyard, hull was launched at the end. of May 1953. Work on the Polish passenger ship of 11200 tons, scheduled to carry 600 passengers,' is virtually at a standstill due to the fact that all available material is being used for the construction of 1,100-ton vessels for the USSR.
