Details are given below of special bronze alloys produced by the following East German firms:` VEB Kupf?r-- and Messingwalzwerk, Hettstedt VEB Sonderbron'ce, Berlin-Cborsehoeneweide VEB Halbzeugwerk, Auerhammer VVB der Nichteisenetall.ind"ustrie, Aue 2. The following types of alloy are 'rroduced: A. Bronze S11gy equivalent to AIBz 4 Composition: Copper - 95 - 96.5% Aluminum - 3.5 - 5% Possible methods of treatment (3) Acid-proof machines required in the paper and potash industries Current conveyor springs; starting and damping bars (Anlauf- and Daempferstaebe) Condenser tubes Lye pump components Contacts for railway signalling gear Spot welding Gas welding,'when used with a suitable flux (zinc chloride with free hydrochloric acid) and preheated to 200 - 3000 C. Bronze equivalent to A1Bz 9 Composition: Copper - 90 - 93% Aluminum - 7 - 10% Possible uses: Possible methods of treatment: (3) Valve sets for combustion engines Components for mine water pumps Pulp machines used in paper making Brine pumps Fittings in sebacic acid plants Not suitable for welding Suitable for gas welding only after preheating and with special flux over low flame. Suitable for hot and cold teatment and deep drawing. Heat resistant up to 3000 C. Malleable at 740 - 8000 C. Form in which supplied: Supplied as forgings, sheet, bars, wire and tubing. G. Bronze equivalent to GAIBz 9 Composition: Copper - 89 - 92% Aluminum - 8 - 10% Possible uses: (1) (2) Worm wheels subject to great stress Machine parts expUged to great heat or corrosion. Bronze equivalent to A1MBz 10 Composition: Copper - 88 - 90.5% Aluminum - 8 - 11% Iron - 1.5% Manganese - 2% Silicon - 1% pressure castings. Worm, bevel and gear wheels. Super-heated steam fittings. Blade wheels in salt water pumps. High speed spindle nuts. Not,_suitabie,for,_gas welding. Can be cast, but only at low temperatures. Suitable for centrifugal, pressure and composite castings. Form in which supplied: Supplied as sand or chilled castings. 3.
