On 27 and 28 August 1953, the woods close to the former artillery firing
range was occupied by reserves and supply vehicles during the exarcise
northeast of i'-aumburg. Source noticed several kitchens, 1 field hospital,
tents and about 120 trucks. Residents estimated that about 10800 infantry
men and abou 250 trucks were assembled there. Approach roads were secured
by AT and machine guns. There seemed to have been no enemy party. At 8 p.m.
on 28 August, the exercise terminated, with the bulk leaving the area via
Markroehlitz-Weissenfels. Six large and 15 small amphibious vehicles i
through Weissenfels to the autobahn at 3 p.m. on 28 August. 25X1 C
