Chemical Produiction in East Germany

1., East Germany, including East Berlin, h4s certain major production units of
Germany's prewar industry. This includes the Sphering plant, Berlin
Ad.lershof, which contributes the majority of items listed in the catalog
drawn up by Daha-Pharm; (predecessor of DIA-Chemie (Deutscher Innen?t1pd
Aus,senhandel-Chemie)).. Penicillin. production appears to be mainly cA :cium
salts, Sulphonamide production is almost certainly in excess of needs., and..,
there appears to be a surplus production of some vaccines., Relatively large
imports of antibiotics have been made.. The East German Five-Year-Plan
provides for substantial increases in pharmaceutical production, especially
streptomycin and anti-TB drugs.

importance. Ministry-controlled plants are at Berlin-Niederschoeneweide,
Magdeburg, Klaffenbach Frumps., Dessau (sera), Berlin:Adlershorf (Sphering
insulin and penicillin), Berlin-We isse .see (sera), .Rodieben (sulphonamides),
Dresden (penicillin), and Oranienberg (bismuth and-arsenicals).
. It is interesting to note that pharmaceuticals amount to 25% of the value
