1. Following the reorganization of the shipyard industry in September 1952" the
Gdynia Fishing Craft Shipyard (Gdynska Stocznia Rybacka) and Ships' Repair Service
(Remontowa Obslu a Statkow) were merged into one enterprise under the name Gdynia
Repair Shipyard~Gdynska Stocznia Remontowa).
The new shipyard .now overhauls minor floating units (e.gv fishing craft and cutters),
and constructs new fishing cutters,
The-shipyard employs approximately 1,000 workers, working in two shifts.
The production plans stipulated that the shipyard's stores were to be supplied with
building materials to the value of 9 million zloty, but actually only 6 million
zloty worth of materials could be collected. The most acute shortages are' iron
sheet; non=ferrous metal goods, spares for engines; steel rode; T-, L-, Hshaped
iron; rivets; electric cables and flex; and hardwood. These shortages are caused
by delays in deliveries from factories; they, in turn, blame the National Bank, which
finances all orders-and fails to pay accounts on time.
The shipyard,is unable'to manufacture certain goods due to the lack of the necessary
installations or experts. Such goods are therefore ordered from other mechanical
workshops, some.of which are still privately owned.
When orders are placed with the latter, the commercial name of the firm is never
mentioned in the shipyards books, only symbols are used, Symbols are also shown in
all production reports. The following are'some of the symbols in uses
