1. The contact of non-satellite members of the Neutral Nations Inspection Team (KNIT)
with the population is impossible, The local population is not allowed to pass
the NNIT dwelling. The non-satellite members feel their work is purely symbolic
as they see only that which the Communists allow. They have no access to radio
or newspapers, but did attend two Soviet films in.Ch'orLgjin which were magnifi-
cent from the standpoint of production and especially propaganda.
2. In early September during a two-week trip into North Korea, NNIT non-satellite
members from the neutral zone observed thousands, of destroyed railroad cars, and
hundreds of locomotives, destroyed and derailed. All bridges were damaged. The
average-speed of the trains was 15-17 kilometers per hour.
3. Sinanju was completely destroyed. The population was only a few hundred.
Destroyed sections were converted into cultivated land. A few poorly erected
barracks were observed. A new airfield, 1,400 meters long, was under construction.
4. Sinuiju.was completely destroyed. A few barracks were recently constructed.
Only one bridge, approximately 500 meters long, was in use. A railroad bridge
was damaged only in the centipr. Two other bridges were not yet repaired,
Antung suffered practically no damage. An old airfield near the town was under
repair.

No war materials were being brought into Manp'o. There. was no airfield in
Nanp'o. The Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NfiC) controls one bridge
over the Yalu River. More bridges down the Yalu were not controlled by the
NNSC. To newly-made large modern electric locomotives were damaged and leaning
against a wall.

6. The Ch'ongjin industrial area was destroyed. There was no steamer traffic in the
harbor because of mines.

There were many destroyed locomotives and railroad cars between Ch'ongjin and
Hungnam. Hungnam was completely destroyed, including electric and chemical
plants. The harbor facilities were also destroyed, but there was much
activity in the harbor. A mine sweeper was working the harbor and mine detona-
tions were often heard.
