1. An estimated 17 small naval vessels of various types, 'most of them looking like
large armored motor boats with low bridge construction amidships, were seen lying at
anchor about ten nautical miles east of Ruegen on the night between 12 and 13 ,
2. In the Prorer Wiek south-west of Sassnitz, six vessels of the old German R-Boat type
were seen sailing in a column on a southerly course on 13 August. On the same date,
four similar vessels were seen off Sassnitz, sailing towards the northwest, and
showing flags with horizontal stripes of black, red and yellow color.
3. During the night between 13 and 1L August, distant gun firing was heard between the
mainland and Ruegen Island, No naval vessels were observed.
Comments Information reported above is inconclusive, but may confi
the possibility of naval exercises in the area at the time stated.'
