1. A new Autobahn bridge is being built across the Oder River about 300 to 400 meters
south of the double-track railroad bridge which is under construction between
Slubice and Frankfurt/Oder. A large railroad station is also being constructed
on the German side of the frontier in the southern suburbs of Frankfurt/Oder where
the two bridges have their termini. The station will have about 20 tracks and many
warehouses and storehouses. However, no frontier control building or other control
installations are being erected at the ends of the bridges.
2. Before the work on the bridges began, a dispute arose between the Soviet and Polish
Governments concerning the location of the railroad station. The Poles wanted to
build the station and its accompanying control installations on the Polish side
since the former German airfield at Kunowice (Kunersdorf) would have been ideally
suited for this purpose. However, the Soviets refused to accede to the Polish wishes
and ordered the construction of the railroad station on the-German side.
