REMARKS
1. In mid-September 1953, the ammunition depot at Wulkow was occupied by an
estimated 600 EM and 60 officers .l The installation was surroolnded by
four concentric wire fences, with each fence 10 meters from the other.
A watch tower with two movable searchlights, each occupied by two sentries
with carbines and a light machine gun, were placed at intervals of 100
meters along the fence. In addition, powerful arch lamps were placed between
the watch towers at intervals of-about 20 meters. A total of 61 ammunition
bunkers well camouflaged by grass and earth mounds were counted in the depot.
Three buildings, each about 80 x 20 meters, observed in the depot area were
detached from the other buildings by barbed-wire. They were heavily guarded
by sentries. Details of about 50 soldiers each were employed in three other
buildings. They cleaned and painted ammunition, possibly of 122 mm, which
was later picked up by lorries and horse-drawn vehicles.
