to After 17 June 1953, two meetings of the Leana plant personnel took place. At the
first meeting on 27 June, free and open discussion was permitted. At the second
meeting during mid-July, Walter Ulbricht was present. This meeting was completely
under SED control. During the course of his speech, Ulbricht asserted that it was
his intention to ferret out and destroy the "resistance movement" among the intel-
ligentsia. Immediately after this meetingian informer net was put into operation,
which kept a close watch on all top-level Leuna administrative personnel...
2. Two employees, Pleiz (fnu) and Weisshaupt (fnu), were arrested because of a denun-
ciation allegedly submitted by Otto Siegmund. Contributions by leading adminis-
trative personnel,as well as by the intelligentsia of Leuna,were used to help
support the dependents of the arrested- men. .
