1. On. 30 April 1953 the Haeju North Korean Army Military Police Station was in two
earth-covered trenches in the vicinity of YC-403125 near Haeju. The station
was manned by a military police chief, 2 officers, and 10 enlisted men. Each
of the officers carried a pistol; the enlisted men, PPSh's.
2. A semi-underground checkpoint was approximately 10 meters northeast of the
station at a fork in a road. One enlisted man was on duty at the checkpoint
during the day and two or more at night. On the left arm they wore a red badge
on a white cloth. Routine checks were made of drivers' licenses and certifi-
cates and of soldiers' documentation. Some civilians were also checked. If a
detailed check was required, the enlisted man on duty called an officer by
ringing a bell connected with the trenches. The trenches and checkpoint were
surrounded by a barbed wire fence.
