At 8 a.m. on 18 October 1953:)I an estimated 4,000 XV?s deployed
along the autobahn south of Berlin, at a distance about 45,km short of the
Berlin t'utobehn Circuit arc in the length of about 25 km. the soldiers seen
wore khaki and blue unifo,ns; most of them were deployed on the west side of
the autobahn, some in the adjacent forest. Most of the soldiers were armed with
submachine guns9 but lig?it machine guns were also seen. Details of about 70 men
each were observed marching along forest lanes paralleling the autobahn. It
appeared as if the unit, were being employed for searching the wooded area.
Along the autobahn, 200 trucks and 100 vehicles lnzking like jeeps besides
about 15 field kitchen', were parked along the autobahn.
