Bulgarian Amnesties
1.. When Malenkov came into power,, it was commonly believed in Bulgaria that there
would be an amnesty for many prisoners, especially political prisoners. On 1
May, however., only 160 prisoners were released. It is believed that there will
be no general amnesty because of the widespread discontent among the people.
Current rumor states that the formation of a new government is imminent and that
the new rulers will quickly declare an amnesty to get the support of the masses.
