1, Pegas, National Corporation, Rein Plant, Wire and Screw Manutap tare (formerly
Pilnikarna Harliekuv Brod), covers an ar,^ea of 100 by 150 meters close to the road
which crosses-the railroad tracks south of the Jioin railroad station. North
of the field are. open fields and apprvximate],y 500 meters from, the plant there
is a brick kiln. In the southeast and.south.are fields and in the west is the
Jicin - Hradec Kralove highway,
2. The plant consists of one building,. of irregt ar shape, approximately 100 or 200
meters long and 60 or, 80 meters wide. Both the plant and the equipelent are O.M.
The western part of the building, adjoining the road which runs parallel 'to the
raai]:roq.d tracks, is divided into a number of small units.
In the northern part of the 'building are two gatekeeper's rooms, the cloakrooms
and wash--house, workers' quarters, . the canteen, the technical office,,the
accounting department, the manager's office and the production office,
5. In the southern part of the building are various departments, such as the file
manufactu>rgifig shop and a grinding shop, both approximately 30 meters long and 20
meters wide.' Above the grinding shop is a large hall of the pressing shop.
Adjoining the grinding shop are the mechanical workshop and the machine shop,

flat Is the building containing the welding shop. On the southeastern side of the
courtyard is a storage area for wooden material. Next to the plant stands the house
of the former owner, which is now the worker. -O tLommunity house.
S, Machinery of the Pegas plant is old, except for that in the nail shop. The machinery
aac machines,,
consists of the following-, four power hammers, 17nvs,iht screw-cutting cutters and
seven milling machines for studs, four 1,500-kg. presses, several automatic shears for steel, as well as four latries of German manufacture,
9. Electric current is supplied by the Hradec Kralove power station.
10, Until 1952, the Pegas plant manufactured files, studs and horseshoes. It produced some
300 files per day. Originally, it had only manufactured spikes for railroad ties. in
spring 1952, the production of nails as expanded and since January 1953 the plant has
been manufacturing some 60 hundradvelghti 1 cm. thick per day (sic). In April 1953,
production was to be increased to 600 hundredweight of nails per day, failing which It
was proposed to close down the production of nails, studs and horseshoes.
11. Finished nails are packed into large crates and all are exported to the 'USSR and China.
12. The Five-Year-Plan was being fulfilled by only 65% because of absenteeism and the lack
of material. Until spring 1953, the number of employees was not increased because the
plant was considered of only secondary importance. Until, that time, it had only 150
employees, an' nine of these were clerical workers. At tha' ttwq however, the number
was increased to 250 or 300,
13. Morale of the employees is very low, The Works Council is not very powerful. The head
of the cadre department is Josef Klinaba., a well-meaning man who tries to compromise
with everybody. The managing director of the plant is Bohac (fnu), an expert (sic).
