le Until April 1953, the bread supply in Petrich was sufficient and it could be purchased
whenever wanted. During may 1953, for unknown reasons.. there was a shortage of, bread
in the city and it was often necessary to go to the bakery four or five times, and
even then bread-was not found. Queues of 150-200 people were usually waiting in line.
25X1 articularly in front of the Timovata Bakery
located in the center of town, near the Durzhavno Sigurnost where lines of people
were always waiting for bread. Queues were particularly long on market days,
Wednesdays,,because many villagers came in from Rzhdak, Drangovo.. Kulata, Mari-
kostinovo, Eleshnitsa, pgrazhden, and bought sacks of bread in large quantities.
2. The people secretly expressed their displeasure and indignation at this bread
. ehcr tage and were particularly resentful of the people from out of town buying
up the local stocks.
