Registration of Inhabitants of Sakhalin Island 14. Local registration of non.-Soviet inhabitants of Sakhalin Island took place in the following localities from .1. to 20 January 1954: Dolinsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinak, Koreakotr, Ozeretskoye, uorno-.a.vod.sk (Naihoro) (N 46-43, F 141-50), and Aniva (Rutaka) (N 46-43, E 142-31)? Census-taking was announced as the ostensible reason for the registration. '1'owever?,the inhabitants of Sakhalin Island believe that the registration was done to prepare for their forced evacuation elsewhere. the registration was necessary in preparation for the 25X1 organization.of local vigilance commissions and public safety forces.
