1. A strike broke out in July 1953, in the coal mine and coking plant (former]y
knowf as blma) at Ups$ary, near Radlin (Q32/f14), which employs aboi.t 7,000
workers. The workers demanded higher wages and the withdrawal of the system
of norms.
2. The area of the mine and coking plant was surrounded by troops from a Soviet
armored unit, and the workers were forced to resume work. A number of arrests
were made*
