THE APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE. (FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. The Nove Zamky Airfield is about four kilometers south of the Nove Zamky railroad station. The eastern edge of the airfield borders on the Nove Zamky - Komarno highway and is approximately 50 meters from the highway. The eastern and western edges of the field are two kilometers long, runAing northwest-southeast, and the northern and southern edges of the field run at right angles to the eastern and western edges. The northern and southern edges are both one kilometer in length. 2. During World War II, this field was used as an auxiliary airfield by the German and Hungarian air1'forces . In 1951, extensive construction work was begun which was not yet finished at the time of observation. The work was being done in a noticeably slow manner. 3. The field does not have a concrete :-runway. The surface of-the field is dry and firm, V?th grassy sod, and the foundation is black loam. The surface is very well leveled and rolled throughout slmost'.its :entire ektent. 4. Two hangars (Nos. 7.and 8 on the annexed sket"ch) have been erected since 1951. They are both 25 by 70 meters in size and they have jointed steel doors. There are concrete aprons in front of them. The two hangars are on thb eastern edge of the field, about 120 meters from the Nove Zamky - Komarno highway. 5. South of the two hangare3 and about 60 meters away is a building (No. 9 on the sketch) which is used for--billeting ground personnel of the airfield. 6. On the northern edge of the field, 600 meters west of the northeast corner and 50 meters from the edge of the field is another building (No. 10 on the sketch) where ground personnel are billeted. Next to it is a'one-story building (No. 11 on the sketch) which is a workshop. At the northern end of the east side of the field is a wooden barracks building (No. 6 on the sketch) which houses the guard. 8. A narrow-gauge spur line leads to the airfield. It runs along the northern end of the airfield and continues on past it to the west. A branch of this line leads along the entire western. side of the field, between the field and the collective farms which lie west of it. The surrounding area consists of flat cultivated fields, but there is swampy land to the south. An Air Force unit subordinate to the Air Force headquarters at Nitra is stationed on the Nove Zamky field. This unit has approximately 20 or 25 single-engine fighters of the CLA-700 (sic) type and four training biplanes at the field. 10. The unit has a strength of 100 men. TEeepersonnel are quartered in the Air Force barracks in Novy Zamky (No. 5 on the sketch), The officers of the units also live in Nove Za*y,in the so-called Flender Institute. The officers and enlisted men are brought to the airfield in three busses every day and are returned to the city in the same way at night. Only officers - young first and second lieutenants - ride in one of the busses. 11. An airfield complement of 15 men is stationed On the field, but when the construction work is completed the entire unit'is to be moved from Nove Zamky to the barracks on the field. 12. Flying activity goes on every day.in flights of from three to seven aircraft. Every hour or hour-and-one-half the pilots change off. Only enough- fuel is provided to suffice for carry ig ; out one flight at a time. 13. Fuel'. for the aircraft is brought from Nove 2amky in tank trucks. No fuel,. dump cou&d be observed on the field.
