Radio Sofia has a general manager,, an assistant to the general manager who heads the technical and administrative departments, a director of foreign broadcasts to '.he Satellites, a director of foreign broadcasts to the West and the United States, and various technical departments. It has a staff of approximately 850 men. 2. The general manager and the director of foreign broadcasts to the Satellites are responsible for local broadcasts. There are editors in each sectiqn (e.g. labor, economics, culture) who compile material in their own fields and submit it to the general manager, who together with the director of foreign broacasts to the Sat- ellites either approves or disapproves the broadcast. This arrangement was initiated in September 1953; formerly the editors submitted the material only to 25X1 the director of foreign broadcasts to the Satellites. 3. A short time ago' the head of an Albanian delegation visiting Sofia was invited to the radio station to make a recording., but when he arrived there was nobody to receive him. The Albanian sent a letter of ccmplaint to Vulko Chervenkov., who summoned Nikolov and Komitov and reprimanded them severely. 8. A few months ago., some members of an East German delegation visiting Bulgaria were invited to visit the Sofia radio station' In their conversatio.~.. with the employees., which were recorded., the Germans neither made any mention of the "large Soviet assistance to Germany" nor recalled any; Soviet or other Communist leader. The Bulgarian woman liaison officer with the delegation asked Komitov to explain the German attitude., which had left a bad impression on her. He replied., "Why do you ask questions?
