This target date, however, was postponed by about two . months because the paver eupply could not be guaranteed. The required aluminum wire having e. cress section of 95 square ram could not be delivered before around med-August 1953. Upon discontinuation of the work on Rueeen island conetrUction material arrived at the airfield. 2. A German employee with the construction staff at the airfield stated that the Brandenburg-Bauunion, ehen taking over work at Tutow airfield, withdrew workers from other construction sites for Tutow. Of these workers, about 50 percent more in the meantime dismissed or transferred to other construetion sites. At the beginning of December, only about 200 worker's were still erployed in. Tutow. Allegedly, there were no more funds for 1953. ? . From the beginning or 1953 o late September 1953, the Bauunion Wismar had been charged with con-;;;euction work at the airfield. After October the work was then continued by the Bauunion Brandenburg by order of the Pinistry for Reconstruetien The construction designs were made by an agency In Stralsund. The e)estruction orders were given by the Soviet conetructicn staff in err which was represented at Tutow airfield by a Soviet major who had junt recently arrived in Germany. The German construction superinteedees was Herr Pfeil (fnu) who had previously been employed b the Steel eorke and rolling mill in Brandenburg. His deputy was construction supormteeeent Tanz (fnu) who was transferred frcm the Dauunion Winar. Clerieal Jerk was done by Herr neer (fnu) who had formerly been the chief of the ,Ity-orfice in Werneuchen. On 10 December, about 200 nen were employed at the niefield. The rummy wYdch was 2,200 meters long and 60 meters wide, was concreted at both ends and the ;joints letween the concrete slabs were filled with etumen. The concrete cover was 20 en thick. Fourteen concrete slabs each 6 nets long and 4 meters wide, were laid side-by-side on the runway and one slab, 4 eatery wide, was laid at both sides The ratio of nixture for the concrete was as follows: 200 ilters of water, )50 kg o cement 1,080 kr of gravel, and 450 kg of 15/30-type chippings. The eiddle section of the runway, which had been planned to be built in 1953, could not be concreted alleredly because of a thick water vein, but is to be completed in 1954.
