1. As of 8 December. 1953 approximately 100 people had moved into Ongjin-gun in
southwest Hwanghae Province from Sariwon (N 38-30, E 125-45) (YC-l+064), Sin'gyre
(N 38-30? E 126-32) (BT-856+), Koksan (N 38-4+7, E 126-10) (BT-9795), and areas
of Kangwon Province. About 1,000 more people were to move in the near future.
The newc;:amers were both men arld women whose ages ranged from 20 to 90. Th
majority of them were f amiliesl of Korean Labor Party members. 25X1
they had to move because of the war damage to their
.arms and. other means of livelihood, and they were going to farm or work in
industry in 0n ;j:i.:~_.-gur.i.
2. As of 8 December 22 families had moved itto the Yongso-dong (N 37-57, E 125-02)
(XC-7901) area in 0ngj:1Ln-gim from the mountainous areas of Kangwon Prov:?.nce. Two
policemen and one Social Security Department official from a police substation 25X1
in the myon had arrived at Yongso-dong to investigate these people. Two to three
local police have patrolled the Bong area and occasionally searched the houses in
the village since this movement of people occu-red,
all residents of the mountainous areas of Kangwon Pr
move to other provinces, and anyone refusing to do so was punished by the North
Korean army and the police.
3. As of 8 December approximately 50 former inhabitants of 'chap-to (N 37-55, E 12i.-57)
(XB-7297) had moved into Yongso-dong.2 According to the North Korean authorities,
the reason for their moving was to escape the effect of possible renewal of the
war.3

would seem improbable.

the 83 former inhabitants of Mahap-to had been evacuated
to Kori--dung W-771017) and Hyu-dong W-781010).
It is not clear whether the reason given by the North Korean authorities
for the moving of the people was meant for paragraph two as well as para-
graph tbr. ee .
