1, The completion date for the anti-collision radar device (Koilisions-
schutzgeraet) being developed in Departr;ient TEE of Funkwerk Koepenick
under the su.pervisi-m of Rudolf Manthey was originally set for 31
+>&ceriber 1953 but h..s been deferred to 30 June 1954 The delay was
t:.ascd by the lack .)f adequate klystrons. Attempts to procure klystrons
from Russia failed, An order given to the perk fuer Fernmeldewesen. HF,
Berlin-0berschoenewide, in early 1953 to build the needed klystrons
has not yet been carried out. Failure of the HF plant to comply with
the order was mainly caused by administrative red tape. So far,
Vanthey has carried c?at tentative measurements with reject klystrons
from the Hx plant whi.'h were left over from earlier klystron deliveries
by the enterprise to 1:-ass a. Since the point has now been reached where
the lack of adequate k'_ystrons seriously hampers the progress of the
development and since -.t has become clear that the Russians will not
help, Main Administrat_on RFT has again issued an urgent order to the
HF plant to build the kl.ystrons needed.
2. As previously reported 1' a new radar development order for 1954
was placed with Departmer t TEE concerning the d evploi:men-v. Of e u-cu ind-
born3 (coastal) and of an a rbornr:_radar device; op the._'1asis"of experience
r-n3ined in the deve't,:npmPnt of thp. ship-borne a;ntd'?co11isicn device.-
i,ik:e the latter, the .1954-radar instruments are to operate on the wave
length of approximately t=1.:-ee centimeters. In addition to this order,
another one was recently placed with Department TEE for the development
of a ground-borne (coastal), and an airborne radar device operating on
the wave length of about ter centimeters. Around mid-November 1953,
however, this order was with, irawn from Funkwerk Koepenick and transferred
to Sachsenwerk Radeberg, wher?i it will be carried out under the supervision
of research and development ..hief Gerhard Megla . The transfer was made
on the basis of an agreement re.-.ched between Funkwerk Koepor_ick and Sachsen-
w.ork Radeberg and approved b,i the Government whereby all development
tasks bearing on the ten cenvimeter wave are to be carried out in the
3achsenwerk, whereas three r ;ntimeter development tasks are to continue
to be handled by Funkwerk Ko-,peniek.
