SUBJECT Kirov Hand Grenade Factory in
Krasnouralsk
THE SOURCE EVALUATIONS IN THIS REPORT ARE DEFINITIVE.

.. The Kirov Hand Q*renade Factory is located about three kilometers southeast of 25X1
tho factory was built in 1945.
2. Theory manufactured and filled egg-ehaped hand grenades. 25X1
the grenades were filled with T. ijetonators and suss igniture were
weighed about 150 grams; and the walls were 75 centimeters thick.
3. Captain Belimgolov was the director of the factory,which employed 700 workers,
moat of whom were Soviet convicts although there were a few German PWs. The
factory operated in two shifts.
4. Raw materials were delivered by rail from Krasnouralsk 25X1
Every two days about 250 cases, each containing 25 grenades, were dispatched by
rail to an unknown destination.
5. The factory is surrounded by a barbed wire fence about two meters high. There
are no watohtowers,although there are MVD guards inside the factory. Sentries
are posted at the gate and at the explosives storehouse; they also patrol the
factories intermittently. Workers are subject to search before and after work.
Rubber boots are worn by workers for certain work. Smoking is strictly prohibited.
6. To the southwest of the factory there is a large birch wood and there is a smaller
one to the northeast.
Krasnouralsk, with which it is connected by a branch railway line. Parallel to
the branch line there is a road with a firm but unpaved surface. 25X1
not made in the factory. The grenades weighed about 450 gramef the chlargee 25X1

2. Brick administration building with two rows of windows.
3-4. Brick sheds, each 40 to 50 m long x 20 to 25 m wide, in which hand
grenades are manufactured.
5. Brick shed of same dimensions as 3 and 4 in which grenades are filled.
6-7. Empty sheds of similar dimensions, probably to be used to increase
output.
8. Brick building about 30 m long x 10 to 12 m wide. The southern part is
empty. The northern part contains the explosives storehouse, always
guarded by two sentries. 1 plosives were taken two to three times
daily to shed in iwa.11 rubber wagons.
