On 2O September 1953 there was an infantry company belonging to the 9233 (sic) North ltorea:ti Army Un .t1 at BT ]:0R in Toechae., Tosong-ni (N 37-58, E 126-O3) (BT-4106), Hwanghae Province. A large tiled house in the center of Toechae served as the.company headquarters. There were approximately 170 men in the company, and their arms included M-1 rifles, Soviet-made rifles, and PPSh'so The company, which had moved into Toechae on 11 September, worked closely with the local police in the maintenance of public order. The soldiers were quartered in civilian houses, over 16 to each house. 20 On 5 October there was a unit of battalion strength belching to the 9233(sic) North Korean Army Unitl At BT-372015 in Toec.hi, Songhang-ni (N 37-56,',E.126-00), (BT-3602), Hwanghae Province. Supplies for the'battalion came from Yonan twice a month. The battalion was used to maintain public order locally, and to guard the coast, especially thT vicinity of the Sauji levee ;(N 37-55, E 126-00) (YC- 636008). 25X1X 25X1 A 1. Comment from a farmer in the area concerned, on 31 August 1953 the 9233 (sic) Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was stationed at Tohwa-dong (N 37-55; E 126-00) (YC-635015), Hwanghae Province. The unit had been stationed,,,,it this area in the middle of M_l953, then moved to Pyo$song-gun, and returned to the Tohwa-dong area in August. The unit comprised 250 men, commanded by a captain who wore four small stars. Their mission wss to guard the coastal area and to arrest South Korean guerrillas and undergroUnd resistapc,e personnel for whom they occasionally searched in the fields. Constant contact was maintained with the local police station. 25X1A
