OF PAGES REQUIREMENT REFERENCES 1. Location: a. Theprev .ously observed radar set was still in its position about 250 meters north df Kleinberndten. Just north of the radar array a.barracks had been newly erected. There were five box-shaped vehicles in open-sided hits along the track running parallel to the main road. (See sketch in Annex I.) The installation. was located in open country. The site was bound towards Kleinberndten by a barbed wire fence. The approximate distance between the barracks and the last shed was 350 meters. 2. P} scilion of Set; The radar sot coiisiated of what appeared to be two parabolic reflectors mounted in a horizontal and vertical position respectively., The reflector, placed in a horizontal position, was supported above the ground by a solid object approximately two meters in height. The vertically mounted reflector seemed to rest with its lowest extremity in the center of the horizontal. bowl. The reflectors were of open or girder construction, approximately four to five meters in diameter. Inside the reflectors was what appeared to be a grid-like system with 'knobs' or insulators at the intersecting points. Multi-wire lines or cables fanned out from the top of the vertical reflector to the base of the set. 3. DD ee, tien of Aerials (See sketch in Annex II): Each of the four aerials consisted of a square wooden or metal, frame, support- ed above the ground by one mast approximately four meters in height. The frame was mounted in an upright position, resting with one corner on top of this mast. Two cross bare were fixed horizontally to the upper half of the mast and were connected by what appeared to be a single wire to the outer corners of the frame. The aerials had not been in position on 20 September 1953. 25X1 25X1 25 February 1954 25X1 25X1 (Not.: Washington D1.tribut1aAp0Ib6Pv dyPQr;R ease'iNG6M11$1.): CIA-RDP80-0081 OA003600790004-2 Approved For Release 2005/11/22 : CIA-RDP80-0081OA003600790004-2 SECRET) 4. Yalticlea: The four aerials were erected in the spaces between the five sheds situated to the east of the set. The sheds were open on all four sides, and each contained one truck of the 'box' type. The aerials were not visibly connected to the vehicles. 5. Activity: a. At the time of observation the radar sot remained stationary - the reflectors did not rotate or tilt up or down. 25X1 25X1 b. Two men were seen to be walking between the set and the adjoining sheds. c. Two two-man Soviet patrols were observed patrolling the outer perimeter of the barbed wire fence. Five enlisted men, wearing padded winter clothing, were seen walking in Kleinberndten. There were no Russian troops billeted in the village. No other military equipment was observed in the vicinity. 6. C muni r ti pn__s: An overhead telephone line approached the rear of the site from a southerly direction and continued in a north-easterly direction towards Wollersleben. The line consisted of two pairs of bare copper wires, each wire carried-by a separate insulator fixed directly to the poles. The average height of the poles was about four meters. 25X1 SECRET) 25X1 Approved For Release - - 790004-2 Approved For Release 21f314RDP 0-00810A003600790004-2 25X1 25X1 Appro d For elease 00 111122: QfA-RDP80-00810A003600790004-2 KLF 1 N t~uy-VE N Approved For Release 2005/11/22 : CIA-RDP80-00810A003600790004-2 h e, -)J~ jc me _rs la n~ i rv. ai' p ) Approved For Release 2005/11/22 : CIA-RDP80-0081 OA003600790004-2
