Officers were armed with pistols, and enlisted. men with Soviet rifles. The entrance to the unit area was guarded 24 hours a day. The. unit had one telephone with which contact with other units in the area was maintalned. OF PAGES 24 February1954 25X1 25X1 REQUIREMENT REFERENCES an. unidentified Nor. th Korean army (NKA) unit with about 80 men was near Yongdangpao (N 38-00, E 125-42) (SIC-367082) at YC-375091 on the, north side of a bill about 500 meters north of the company homes of the Yong- dangp'o Cement Plant. About 25 NXA troops were at YC-372088 west of the Yong- dangp'o-HaNJ -?' hi.gbway. ' hce' of'f,icer,: of 'both units carried pistols; the enlisted men had Japanese rifles and'hard e adei. They trained during the day at YC- 374083 and at YC-372087. Part o:` th# training consisted of signal drills with white and red flags, At night they were engaged in the construction of bunkers. There were two bunkers at YC-38,1089, rnf, at YC-372086, and two at YC-367084. Each bunker covered an area of abou:t?, si?x square feet. At YC-370085 a tunnel was being constructed, with the Esc cif, exp,los ivies . The entrance was 2 meters high and 2.5 motors wide. a sailboat about 32 feet long and a sampan about 28 feet long were anchored at YC-372079. The sampan was powered by a Soviet truck motor and had a speed of about six knots. Both boats were manned 'by seven or eight NKA troops who were armed with PPSh'e and two handgrenades each. The boats, carry- ing lumber for bunker construction and other military supplies, made weekly runs between Yon dangp'o, Sosuap-to (YB-4290), Taes?uap-to (YB- 587), and Yongmae- do (YB-5583).
