By September ;953, the 1 and 2 Battalions of the 116 Aegimeit., which wag otationed at Nanchiao (N 22-07) E 100-11), had received 10 machine guns, 200 rifles and' four pack howitzers, which were being used in field exercises and target practice. 2. On 1 October the 5 Company, 2 Battalion, 116 Regiment, moved to Talo (N 21-38) E 100-03). The company was equipped with 50::rifles, four late model machine guns, and two 60-mm. mortars. Fortifications were being constructed surrounding Talo. Burma, Lashio (November 1953) . 3. In August 1953, the 14 Army, which was in western Yunnan, had the 41, 42, 43 Divisions as its subordinate units (F-4).2 LI Ch'eng-fang (2621/2052/5364) was 25X1 commander of the 14 Army, with WANG Ch'i-wing (3769/0796/2494) as deputy com- mander and CHU P'ei-hsuan (2612/0160/1357) as political commissar. CHU Chia-pi (2612/1367/1084), who was formerly the army's chief of staff, had been transferred. 25X1 On 5 May 1953 the headquarters of the 14 Army had been transferred from Tali (N 25-43, E 100-11) to Paoshan (N 25-07, E 99-09). The army's subordinate divisions were disposed as follows: 25X1 a. On l.May 1953, the headquarters of the 41 Division was moved from Paoshan to Chenk'ang (N 24-07) E 99-25). The division was commanded by CH'A Yu-sheng (2686/3768/2573), with I Chi-sheng (0122/7162/3932) as deputy commander. S. OFFICIALS ONLY The headquarters of the 122 Regiment, under the command of CHU Ying (2612/ 5391), moved from T'engch?ung to Kengma (N 23-33, E 99-25). The 123 Regiment moved from Chenk'ang to Lungling (N 24-34, E 98-42), Mangshih, and Chefang (N 24-15, E 98-18)~ b. In April 1953, the headquarters of the 42 Division, which was commanded by LIAO Yun-chou (1675/6663/0719), moved from Tali to Shunning (N 24-35, E 99-54). The subordinate 124, 125, and 126 Regiments were stationed east of the Mekong River. c. In late May 1953, the headquarters of the 43 Division was moved from Lichiang (N 26-51, E 100-15) to Erhyuan (N 26-08, E 99-57). Comment, The 116 Regiment is a component of the 39 Division, 13 Army. 2 4omment. Available information indicates that the 14 Army comprises the , and Divisions, which are carried in the T9engch'ung, Paoshan, and Paoshan-Lungling areas, respectively. The 43 Division, a former component of the 15 Army, is tentatively carried in Yunnan but its subordination and status are unknown. This report suggests that possibly a reorganization has taken place within the 14 Army in which the 40 and 43 Divisions were merged and the 40 Division lost its identity.
