1. on 16 December 1953, six trucks,I ` and each carrying-soldiers 25X1
no majjor maneuvers were held around Cheb in October 1953. 1
2. Prior to April 1953, numerous guns on four wheels were seen in the barracks.
installation southeast of Ostrava (F 50/0 59) between Hraneznik and
R:advanice, near the stop of the field railway to Karvina (Q 50/0 69). The
chassis of the guns were occasionally removed and replaced by supports.
The barrels could be elevated almost vertically. Numerous motor vehicles
were observed at the site. About 12 armored vehicles-were at the installation
in early 1953. In April 1953, two new buildings were under construction. 2

factory in Ostrava which was located in the vicinity of a reinforced concrete
bridge over the Ostravica River, directly at a dump.near a high school.
Numerous trucks and large guns on four wheels also .ere at this installation.

4. From late 1952 to about April 1.953, a large multi-story building at 13.
Koksarenska Street in the suburb of Ostrava-Privoz in the northwestern
sector of the city, which had been used as a hospital during the last war,
was occupied by troops. `?o.e army sedans were all the time parked i

a signboard reading "Obvodni vojenske velitelstvi, Ostrava-Privoz"',

5. Prior to 1 Lay 1953, about 15 tanks and nut-c ous trucks were in the barracks
installation on the northern perimeter of Surnperk (F 50/N 69). A review held
at the post lit the fall of 1952 involved about 50 tanks. 5
After January 1953, about 250 soldiers with rore than 100 horses Jere

opposite the 134 billets. The equipment of the unit, whose soldiers spoke
Slovak, also included four-wheeled horse-drawn vehicles.

Usti,, District of Rumburk, and Lobendova (N 52/F 68). No continuous

Comment. Report groves that other information on extensive Czech
maneuvers held in the Cheb area in the fall of 1953 is incorrect.

believed to quarter another AAA unit. From the training of dogs, it Is
concluded that the installation also quarters a police or border guard
detachment.

A previous report mentioned an officer
candidate school for airborne troops in Nor Ostrava. It is very unlikely;
however, that such a school should be located in the center of the
industr.al area.
Comment. The barracks installation on the northern perimeter of the
city quarters a 4th Necz Div, which is con fizzed
up to May 1953.
Comment. The PS detaohndents are believed to belong to the Deemn
FS brigade.
