REFERENCES 29 March 1954 2 RD The,foll.owing vessels were observed in and outside of the port of Sassnitz during the period of 18 January to 5 February 1954.0 A large Soviet tug bearing the Russian markings Mb-83, but flying the East German flags vas observed in the port of Sassnitzo The. tug was armed with a-r twin-barreled-antiaircraft gun of between 20 and 25-mm: calibers This gun was located behind the captaints bridge, the latter being located near the forward side of the.poop.-----.The tug had a crew of between ~5 and 30 German seamen and the directions and commands were given in German languages A t 'o-funnel destroyer, aviragasilhouette similar to that 'sh r on the attached sketch, was anchored In the no ?thernaiost part of the port of Sassnitz, near the bank. to destroyer was about 110 meters in length and appeared_ta be about 20 years old, There was no armament or sign of life on board tho ' des Troyer this destroyer was toed into ' fl~assnitz by the aforementioned tug,= 25X1 4. ,Two- East German trawlers lay- at anchor near the ttfish smoking plant" in the port of.Sassnitz The trawlers were unarmed and they each had a-erew of between 24 and 28 men o.. house near Koenigsstuhl; sout?i- of the port of Sassnitz near Dwasieden; and furtker south in the area between Gran4tP Bad and Granitzer art. The cutter observed three groups of East German fishing-cutters Itraviing' for mines in the following three areas: north of Sassnitz and south of the light- groups obse ed in the first two areiax -ib.served with glasses at a,distance of two to three miles--were composed o? 1l. vesselea F- I 25X1 these cutters 'Were m z ned by East Getman Sea Police and each cutter had at least two Soviet officers on board.
