Six and sedanI were observed at the installation. Work on the construction rx a new wooden motor vehicle shed east of Gate 11 had been discontinued. Trucks were observed parked in the motor vehicle shed which had been completed. A total of 18 tank trucks were parked in the open. CL ASSIFIC:1I T-34 tanks wor e25X1 seen in a shed. About 30 new trucks and 12 jeeps were Parked in front of two buildings. Senior Lieutenant Mitechick (fnu)' was observed at the installation. 2. On 26 January, normal training activities had been resumed at the installation in spite of the great cold. in the morning, soldiers of various branches of the service were being trained with 18 x 37-ranAA, guns. Details of about 20 men each were being given close order drill. 4o tanks were observed practising in the training area. About 10 a.m., a detail of 14 men who wore an "A*." on their epaulets were seen leaving Oranienburg Castle towards Tiergartensiedlung. The soldiers who carried rifles and full packs returned from the direction of Sacheenhausen about 3 p.m. 3. Between 20 January and 1 February 1954, about 150 new personnel arrived at 'the. let Mechanized Koanmando in Oranienburg. The newcomers stated that they had been forced to join the KVP. During the reported period, the lst Mechanized Koinrnando was placed on an alert status. Officers of the unit believed that the alert was decreed in connection with a possible unrest during the Four-Power Conference in Berlin. 4. The morale of the soldiers of the unit was not satisfactory. A total of seven NCOs and 64 EM were under arrest. All. personnel of the unit, in particular officers and N COs, were being screened by an SDI commission which was expected to transmit its findings to Berlin for evaluation there. 5. Between 28 January and 8 February, the former Sachsenhausen Concentration Capp quartered an estimated 2,000 men who wore red-bordered black, yellow-bordered black, blue-bordered black, black-bordered crimson, black--bordered blue, red- -bordered green and blue collar patches. No training activities were observed on 28 January, the afternoon of l February, and the morning of 4 February,. On 4 February, firing with submachine guns was conducted in the restricted wooden area. east of Lake Lehnitz.
