1. Sovromtractor, located at Stalin (Brasov) is now in the process of
reorganization for the production of a new type of Russian tractor known
as SR. The tractors are equipped with gasoline motors for starting and
running and Diesel motors for heavy work.
2. By the end of the current Five Year Plan Rumania'is scheduled to have
20,, SO tractors; however, of the present tractor pool, only one-third
are in working order, the remainder being worn out and constantly under
repair. This situation is the result of the spare parts for the tractors
being' defective and the unsatitfactory maintenance by the tractor drivers.
The mechanics in the village repair shops are qualified only to undertake
minor repairs and tractors frequently are taken back to the larger repair'
shops. A number of tractors were also requisitioned during 1953 by the Arity
to haul heavy artillery recently obtained from the Soviet Union.
