This is an old German airfield which has been enlarged byl the Poles. The construction: work was not finisIed at the time of obeervationl Only SP (Service for Poland) men were employed as lore in the construction work. Each year 1,000 SP men were oonoentrated at the V 41d for this purposes The airfield oovere an area of about two by seven kilometere, The highway joining Slupak and Odansk runs beside the field and a railroad aiding joins the field with the main railroad station at Slupak. Each box was about 1.8 meters long and about 0.5 motor wide; they were painted green and had white lettering. 6. Source observed the following types of aircraft on the field: a. On 12 November 19539 at 2 p.m., 125.MiG-15 aircraft parked on Runway No. 1. be On 13 November 1953, at 8 a.m., 120 Jet aircraft of unknown type parked on Runway No. 1. c. On 12 November 19539 at 10 a.m., ).8 twin-engined fighters on Runway No. 1 in front of the hangars. Each aircraft had a crew of three men; the crew members were Russians. d. There are six reconnaissance aircraft at the field. Each morning one aircraft takes off at 8 a.m. on reconnaissance and returns at noon; another takes off at 1 p.m# and returns at about 6 p.m. Each aircraft has a crew of two men. e. Old type training aircraft; 56 of these aircraft have been stationed at the field since 1951. Each aircraft has a crew of two men. 8. Since the escape of the two Polish pilots in the spring of 1953, the Air Force division at the Slupsk airfield has had a high percentage of Soviet pilots, who wear Polish uniforms. The Soviet pilots and their families are quartered at the field. Source repeatedly observed them when they were going to Slupsk to dance. 9. Most of the barracks at the airfield are camouflaged. The field is' surround- ed by a barbed wire fence. The runways and the area near them are patrolled by one Soviet officer and 12 Polish guards with vehicles. A guard detachment under an officer is on duty at the gates. 10. A dummy airfield is situated northeast of the Slupsk airfield in the vicinity of the town of Rogawica (Roggatz). 11. A glider airfield is situated south of Slupsk along the highway to Slawno (Schiawe). Source observed 12 gliders parked on the field, Training Area 12. On hre way to Smoldzino (Schmolsin) from Slupsk, a military training area about 10 kilometers long and six or seven kilometers wide is located. Bomb- ing and gunnery training for the Air Force are carried on there, For two days during June 1953, source observed the following training operation in the training area' a detachment of infantry with tanks and two reconnaissance aircraft was attacked by from six to twelve aircraft flying at an altitude of about 100 meters. The colonel was about 40 years old, about 1.7 meters tall, rather stout and unmarried; he liked to drink. 1!. A motorized infantry unit with about 2,500 men--probably a regiment-- is quartered in the so-called Mackensen Kaserne, a former German Army barracks. The unit has been quartered there since 1952. The unit was commanded by a colonel about 45 years old, 1.7 meters tall and married. A reserve officers' school is attached to this unit, 15? A motorized artillery unit--probably a regiment--has been located in Slupsk since 1951. It was equipped with 76.2 mm, guns of Soviet origin. The unit had 50 or 60 of these guns. 16. The water tower was located there. 17. Four heavy guns, caliber 235 to 240 mm., were located at the freight railroad station at Slupsk. These were probably old German guns, but they were in good order and ready for use. Soviet Artie Detachment Id, A Soviet Army detachment consisting of one officer and 12 men was quartered in Slupsk. The soldiers were on duty at the post office at Slupsk. 25X1A Comment: Possibly 37 mm, and 76.2 mm, or 85 mm, guns are meant.
