The leaders of the Federaciorl Estudiantil Universitaria (FEU, Federation of University Students) did not sponsor or participate in the anti-BATISTA demonstration which took place on 10 March 1954 at the University of Habana. This demonstration was nromoted by the Juventud Soc~,.ia.lista (JS, Cuban Communist Youth Organization) and the Asociacion de Amigos de Aurelianc (AAA, revolutionary group of Aureliano SANCHEZ Arango). 25X1 2. As a result of the above demonstration an investigation has been initiated by the university police at the re t ques of the University Council.l 3. Rivalry continues between the different factions of the FEU, although an outward appearance of unity still exists. The position of Germa. +L MORE, newly-elected president of the FEU, continues t : be very difficult.. MORE has attempted to make the FEU an organization that will represent -; .he legitimate problems of the students and has tried to clean up scme of the dirty pciicies which have characterized the FEU in the past. The other members of the FEU apparently are in agreement with him, but are also unhappy regarding the role the FEU is playing. A group of students close to FEU affairs are spreading rumors against MORE. It has been stated that not long ago he received a check from a government agent. It has been saiC also tat MORE is registered as a voter in one of the pro-government parties. 25X1A I IComments, 1. No action will be taken as a result of the investigation because the groups concerned will exert pressure and threats to make sure that none will be taken. 2. These rumors are part of a campaign to discredit and force MORE to resign as president of the FEU.
