Generals During the period from 18 to 28 January 1954, owing to severe frosts and incle- ment weather conditions, very little progress was made on the development of this project. REPORT DATE DISTR. Fuel Installations The fuel depot has now been completed. This installa-. tion consists of four fuel tanks, each with a 12 meter diameter and a height of 3 meters, and each fitted with a shallow conical roof. The tanks are set one meter below the surface and are surrounded by a reinforced concrete blast wall which is 3 meters high. The walls have a base thick- ness of 50 centimeters tapering off slightly to a thickness of 30 centimeters, East Germany The supports for a new two-meter-high fence are being erected around the entire fuel installation. b. Excavations A new excavation, approximately 200 meters long, 8 meters wide and 2 meters deep, has been dug out parallel to the railway siding on the opposite side of the fuel installation. c. Of the remaining three holes. situated in the main runway, each of which measures approximately two meters square, one has been shored up with rough timber,!'-,"";his hole is now approximately 60 centimeters in depth, with approximatoly20 centimeters of the sub-soil having been removed. 3. Clearings: A new strip, approximately 80 to 100 meters in width, has been cleared approximately 400 meters north of and parallel to the main runway. This clearing starts in the extreme north-west corner of the project and is pro- gressing eastwards, and at present is approximately l1 2 kilometers in length. 4. Pers onne1; a. No changes in the number of German em to ees working on this airfield have been made The present total of men, all 25X1 members of the Bau-Union Brandenburg, does not exceed 300. b. No Soviet Air Force personnel are as yet stationed on the airfield. c. The total number of Russian personnel lies between 100 and 120, all enlisted men wearing black/red shoulder-boards without insignia. These troops are engaged solely'in patrolling the airfield perimeter fencing and maintaining occasional internal cycle patrols.
