1. At pre^ont some: 500 families (approx. 2,000 inhabitants) are living in the workers'
housing; sottJ.cmont in Kedzierzyn. Most of the men are specialists from East Ger-
many, Czechoslovakia, USSR and Austria, who are employed in the construction and
assembly of now machinery in the Kedzierzyn Chemical Combine.
2. The workers' settlement' which is still under construction, is located in the wood
north of the chemical combine. Living quarters for 50,000 inhabitants are to be
ready by 1956. The following are observations made on the completed buildings:
a. The buildings are somewhat primitive; the outer walls are constructed of two
bric]zs and the inner walls of only one brick (approximately six centimeters
wide) placed upwards.
b. The wood work is of poor quality being mostly of fresh wood which expands and
cracks.
c. The 4)athroonri are at present only shower rooms; bathtubs will be built in at
a later, stage.
3. Four typos of structures are being erected:
a. Four-family house with two floors. On the ground floor there are two 3-room
flats with kitchen and bathroom. In the attic (Dachstuhl) there are two 2-room
flats, with kitchen and bath. Some 60 such houses have been completed and are
inhabited.

A hotel (four floors), which is also to serve as cinema and "House of Culture",
is still under construction.

in Kedzierzyn. (This figure does not include building workers and S.P. (Service
for Poland) members mentioned below--1,000 men).
b. The contractors are the Opole Industrial Builders' Association (Opolskie Prze-
myslowe Zjednoczenie Budowlanee
c. The S.P. brigades are quartered in barracks outside the combine.
