The remainder of Upper Silesia was covered by the Krakow (Q 51/Z 24) DOW. To the north, the area of DOW 4 extended as far as the junction of the Ode the Neisse Rivers. DOW 4 was commanded by General Straszewski (fnu). a offices of the general were in that section of the building which was at the intersection of Prochnicka and Sztabowa streets. The general's private apartment was at ul. OrZa 12 in Breslau. Sections and units which belonged to the DOW 4 in accordance with the table of organization included the tactical section under Lieutenant Colonel Gablinski (fnu); the supply section whose staff included Captain Burak (fnu) and Captain Lachur (fnu); one Soviet liaison party; the military court under Lieutenant Colonel Otapa (fnu), who has been released in the meantime; the military building administration; a guard unit; and a signal unit. Offices, the guardroom of the guard detail and billets for guards were located in the western section of the wing on Pretficza street. The offices of the Soviet liaison party, which included six offioszs: and was headed by a colonel, adjoined these rooms to the east. These officers wore Polish as-well as Soviet uniforms, The officers' club including a bar, a movie theater, a theater and conference rooms was located east of the Soviet offices, from which it was partitioned by the passage for motor vehicles. Offices located in the southern extension of the building included the military building administration of DOW. The southernmost section of the building which bordered on ul. Sztabowa housed the counterintelligence agency. The military courth, the printing office, the military athletics administration, and an officers' meeting room were also located on the north side of ul. Prochnicka. 25X1 Most of the officers assigned to DOW 4 wore khkki uniforms with red cap hands. Officers wearing black cap bands were only occasionally observed. The officers and their dependants lived in a residential area near the DOW headquarters building. Their billets were isolated from civilian apartments. The staff of DOW included a sizable number of attached officers whose billets were located ILLEGIB 25X1 5. The Jednostka Wojsko J,jgi en was located 1 11 in the easternmost se ^" t of ul. Sztabowa. Informacja included the Crossen (0 53/W 00) office in the northern. portion of the Breslau district; the Teuplitz (0 52/A 96) agency which was located in a former inn, about 200 meters from the railroad station; the Goerlitz (0 52/B 00) agency which was located in the WOP (Border Guard) barracks in the eastern sector of the city; the Lauban (0 52/B 20) agency which was about 150 meters from the barracks installation and was located near the weir on a rivulet; the Hirschberg (0 51/G 68) agency which was located outside the city near a cement works; and the Waldenburg (0 51/H 07) agency. The Breslau agency included the following sections: - Command Section under Soviet Colonel Dyanov (fnu), who was detailed to the Polish Army and had been in Breslau since 1950. He previously was in charge of the Lodz J.W. Informacja. Dyanov wore a Polish uniform and resided at 20 ui. Rakkawicka. His son was a student in Leningrad. Dyanov's first deputy was Polish Lieutenant Colonel Sinai (fnu), whose private apartment was at 168 ul. Prochnicka. Polish Lieutenant Colonel Machowski (fnu), whose private apartment was located on ui. Pokojowa, was his second deputy. Personnel Section under Major Szewczyk (fnu), whose private apartment was located at 16 ul. S owicza. Political Section under Major Nita (fnu), whose private apartment was located at 47 ul. Wrobia. This section was staffed by eight first-grade interrogation officers and eight second-grade interrogation officers including Captain Buczkiewicz (fnu),, and Captain Woida (fnu)', and clerks. Prisoners' Section under Lieutenant Kurowski (fnu). Supply Section under Captain Lewinski (fnu). Ordnance Section under Captain Krol (fnu). Finance Section which was staffed by one former navy officer and one Major Rakowski (f nu . The staff of the J.W. Informacja totalled over 50 officers. Officers' wives were also employed as typists. All officers lived in first class apartments in Breslau. The building No 45-47 ul. Most of the prison microphones stalled in the radiators. The intercepting was done by three officers who worked in a special intercepting room. Modern tape recorders were not yet available. 8. Illegal border crossers were interrogated at the J.W. Informacja. The agency also handled members of the Polish Armed Forces who had deserted or had been absent without leave. Individuals who had bee arrested for sabotage or political offenses were also turned over to the agency. id not definitely know whether the agency also engaged in intelligence ac vities abroad. The Breslau J.W. Informacja cooperated with military offices and the DOW court in Breslau. Through its subordinate field agencies it was in contact with border guard troops. The agency also continuously contacted UB (Security Police) offices. Cooperation between the J.W. Informacja field agencies and the WOP (Border Guard) was very close. Individuals captured by WOP units were taken to the field agencies which decided whether or not these people were to be forwarded to Breslau. Numerous individuals who had been brought to trial after being inter- rogated by the J.W. Informacja served their prison term in the Glatz (P 51/H 34) prison, 2 5X1A 1. Commient.
