Between early January and early March 1954, 70 new recruits arrived at the 2d infantry regiment; most of these remuits came from -Thuringia. The regiment was assigned a, vete, of 300 men to be newly recruited. On 2 and 3 March 1954, a field exercise was held by the 2d infantry regiment about 15 ke west of rrenzlau in Zwerweliner Forst. About 1y200 men and all 11.e vehicles and artillery pieces of the regiment took part. The infantry units mar3hed to the train- in; area via Schoenermark and Arandsee. On 23 March, the 2d infantry regiment began advanced combat practice firing with all weapons in the Jaegerbrueek area. 2 In mid-March 1954, the motorcycle company of the 2d infantry regiment received 37 new Soviet model M-72 sidecar motorcycles. 3 ftering the reported period, the morale of the KVP soldiers was rather poor.
