It is estimated that there are about lO,000 troops stationed in the Ljubljana area. There has been no military cons z, w-.t?1on in the Ljubljana area since 1945. The civilian buildings formerly :x=pied by military commands have been de-requisitioned. 2. Basic training is given at a camp heated on Tito Street in Ljubljana where the IOth Artillery Regiment is quartered.. Artillery troops stationed there wear the same gray uniform as other branches of service, but unlike the others the wear boots. The -0th Artillery Regiment has been equipped with art?i:.lery weapons since sometime between 1949 and 1951. 3. The 27th Infantry Regiment was formerly. quartered in the former Austrian Belgier Kaserne located between 300 and. 500 meters south of the main railroad station. Infantry troops wearing gray uniforms and leggings are presently quartered there.- An artillery unit and a vehicle unit are quartered in a camp on Poljanska Street. The strength of the infantry unit is between one and two battalions. The vehicle unit has about 20 automobiles. It is not a vehicle training unit. 5. The Ljubljana Central Military Hospital is located across from the Ljubljana Police Directorate in a building formerly used as a school for girls. 6. A military and civilian airport is located about eight kilometers east of Ljubljana in the direction of Steinbrueck.2 Three commercial flights of the Yugoslav airline "Aeroput" use the airfield. They are the Ljubljana- Graz-Vienna,, Ljubljana -AgramBelgrade,, and. the Ljubljana -Susak-Fiume flights. SECRET/CONTROL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY STATE 1 X ARMY ? Four two-engine de bombers and eight single-engine planes have been observed on the airfield.3 The four, hangars at the airport are used for military purposes. There are several barracks behind the hangars where the :flying and ground personnel are quartered. The uniform worn by the military personnel stationed there is gray-blue in color. The officers' uniforms are of a better.quality worsted fabric than those of the enlisted men, otherwise th$r uniforms are alike. Rigid discipline is carried out with the troops stationed there and morale is somewhat below average. Maribor Area 8. There are an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 troops stationed in the Maribor area. there are no other camps or military installations in the Maribor area other than those given below. 9. An infantry unit and an antiaircraft unit, strength unknown, are stationed in, the forwr Austrian military academy in the Maribor suburb of Magdalenen. The antiaircraft unit has four giuadruple-barreled artillery units 10. An Infantry unit is stationed in the former Kaserne 47 in Triester Street. This unit is reportedly primarily made up of machine gun sections. The Military Prosecuting Authority Office is housed in this same kaserne with the staff of the infantry unit. One of the officers in the Military Prosecuting Authority Office is one Mayor Ivan Dolenc. 11. There'are about two-infantry battalions quartered in the MS'ljaka Warns. on Malinger Street.. Ti. hwas formerly known as Raserne 26. 12. The former. artillery. and cavalry kasernes located in the Miiribor sub of 'XaSrntner, are being used as. warehouses. 13. There: is a civilian airfield for gliders at Tesen, about three ti.lcmetes+i from Maribor. 14. What appears to be some type of military construction has been going on for the past three years in the mountains about 15 kileaetnrs from Oillt " (M46=14,:1l3l5), in the dtreption of Maribor.
