As of January 1953, the Harbin Teachers' Profeesional.Association (TPA) was located at Taoli-chu in a two-storied concrete house near the Harbin Second Hig4' School. The city TPA published a weekly paper, Teachers' Profes,e o lNeas. It also maintained a resort for teachers in coo eration with the Educational Bureau of the Harbin city goveirnment. p which opened 5 June 1951, was at T'aiyang Tao on the northern nbank soft~ the Sungari River. It comprised about ten houses that during the Japanese occupation had. been used as summer houses by White Russians and other foreigners. It could accommodate about 100 people. School teachers in ill health who were members of the association were able to stay at the resort on the recommendation of their basic organ of the TPA It was the city TPA, however, that determined the duration of the stay of each person according to his individual situation. A person might be allowed to stay for a month, two months, or an indefinite period:, The charge for board in the resort was 660 fen (l00,000 yuan)r, half of which was paid by the person concerned and half by' the government. Medical exami- nations,made by a doctor were free of charge, but there was a charge for exp isive medicines, if needed. A regular schedule for meals and bedtr rie ';was the only restriction on the, timm of the patients. The meals were nourishing, and hygienic practices were followed. In Chianpei, Harbin, there was a recreational club which included the members of the TPA. Thew the members'had available. to them after working hours and on Sundays a library, a recreationl room, a playground, a lounge, and a dining room, all free of charge.
